I’m giving it all I can give captain!

Well the news wasn’t dire from our cervical exam on Monday. Tobie’s dilated. So with all the drugs she is taking to slow down her contractions, her cervix is still changing. The doctors feel confident, that if she can keep doing what’s she’s doing, we have a good shot at making it to 28 weeks. We make it to 24 weeks this week. That’s a huge milestone for us.

We are still taking it day by day. Tobie had a lot of contractions yesterday, but they slowly calmed back down. We only have cervical exams once a week, so as long as she isn’t contracting too bad, we can only assume her cervix has little or no change each day. The doctors and nurses have been really great to us with telling us success stories about other mom’s of multiples that have come through their doors under similar duress and making it to 30+ weeks. The days can be rough and long because of the uncertainty. The doctors can only say hang in there because they are doing everything they can to keep those babies in there. We’ve made it 2 1/2 weeks, what’s another 2 weeks? 4 weeks? 8 weeks?

It’s funny, because at first we were like how are we going to stay in the hospital for months on end? Now that we’ve gotten into a routine, I can’t imagine not being at the hospital. The longer we are there, the better off everyone will be, plain in and simple.

Since this all went down before Christmas, we had all our holiday stuff up. I was contemplating keeping everything up, so the house would be just as Tobie left it. But after seeing a couple of homes catch on fire on the news because of dry Christmas trees, I decided the holidays were over and they weren’t coming back until next December! I’ve never seen a tree dry up so quickly. I mean I know I didn’t water it for a week or two, but come on! We almost had a Hanukah burning bush on our hands.
