We got the ultrasound back on the babies. It’s mixed news. Kaylee is fine for the time being. Cole and Page have level 2 brain bleeds. Brain bleeds are classified from level 0 to 4 with 4 being an extreme hemerage. What does this mean for our babies? We aren’t sure. It’s one of those tests where they need to take another test in a few days to see how it’s progressing. It could stop on it’s own or may require intervention. A brain bleed can lead to all sorts of mental and motor problems. Do our babies have that now? It’s unknown, and we won’t know for a long time because it’s something that’s very hard to diagnose. Now that they know they have some sort of bleeding up there, they will be carefully watched. Right now we are in the limbo zone. It can go either way.
More bad news, the babies have their PDA open. The PDA is a duct in the heart that is open on all babies in the womb. It typically closes right before they are born for term infants. While they pretty much expected it to be open, it does create more complications. They will be on a round of medications. They will be given these doses in 3 rounds. If it doesn’t work, they will require surgery. 2 of the babies have hazy looking lungs. The doctors feel this is because the PDA is still open, which is pumping fluid into their lungs. We’ll know more after the next battery of scans in a few days.
Tobie might be going home today. Right now we are on the fence because she still looks like she has the infection in her belly. I took a picture of it, but promised only her and I would ever see it, sorry!
