1.2 Weeks Old

The kids have had a rough couple of days. They tried giving them spinal taps and Cole and Kaylee freaked out. They were only able to get 1/2 the juice needed from Cole before the doctors decided just to test that sample before attempting to redraw everyone else. There is a risk of them developing certain types of infections by being on antibiotics for too long, so that’s why they really need to see the results of the spinal tap.

For some reason they haven’t been able to place Paige’s central IV. They have had to stick her 3 times with no success. We have the best nurse in the NICU trying for the 4th time tomorrow. If she can’t do it, I’m not sure what will happen. They really need to get the stomach line out of her because it’s such an easy source of getting an infection.

Cole was put back on a high speed vent. He’s doing good on it and they are already trying to wean him from it. It just can’t be that comfortable for him because it makes his entire bed shake.

Monday the kids should get another cardio and head scan. These scans should be a good indicator on how well they are progressing.
