Well initially they were going to do surgery on just Paige. Cole’s sats started to drop so they decided to do a PDA ligation on Cole today. The surgery went fine. They immediately turned down his settings on the ventilator. Immediately after Cole’s surgery, Paige was operated on. Her surgery was a little more complex because they had to inflate and deflate her lungs multiple times during the ligation. They had to leave a little plastic tube in her lungs. This tube sticks out of her body to allow air to escape. It will be removed in 24 to 48 hours by the Neonatlogist. Her blood pressure is a little low right now, but nothing to be concerned with (so the doctors tell us). The babies should recover within a week. They’ll probably be a little more sedated as they recover.

Hi Tobie & Eric,
I am thinking of you all quite often during the day. I am praying that all will go well with the babies recoveries from the PDA surgeries. Please call me if you need me.

Eric & Tobie,
Phil & Lisa Roberts here–the ones who were hanging out with you until a few days ago. Sorry we didn’t get to meet, Eric.
The PDA is scary stuff, but glad that they’re through it. Our daughter Danielle had a PDA surgery, and she has a Grade 3 & 4 brain bleed–we didn’t think she’d survive, but she is doing very well, and will probably be the first to come off of the feeding tube. We have received several stories from parents a few years ahead of where we are, in which they’ve told about their kids with Grade 4’s who have done very, very well. Yes, prepare for the worst, but also prepare for something far better than what you might expect! The brain at this young age can compensate for a lot, and early intervention and lots of hands-on love and interaction from parents will be a big, big deal. Just be there for them, love them extra if they have some issues, and pray hard. You are in a scary time, but there is no way that you can get your mind around all that could possibly happen. Just be there for each other and the kids, and keep friends posted, and ask people to pray for them. Just remember this–if you had to have triplets at 24 weeks, you couldn’t have been in a better place in the world to have them than right here where you live. That should be a comfort to you and a sign that God is looking out for you.
We look forward to hearing great things, and will check your website from time to time. Ours is http://www.expandingrobertses.com
