2 days in a row?

eric   March 7th, 2006

I hope we aren’t going to jinx anything by saying this, but we’ve had two fantastic days in a row at the NICU. Shhh…wait for it, wait for it. Okay nothing bad happened, on with the story. So anyways, the babies are doing great. Paige is doing very well on O2. The CPAP should be a distant memory for her. Cole did great today as well. The NP said his lungs sounded very good. Hopefully that’s a good sign of things to come. He’ll probably be on CPAP for at least a couple fo weeks. Cole did however pull his CPAP out 4 times today. 4 times! Not to mention he pulled out his feeding tube 3 times. This kid is a handful. Tomorrow is their eye exam. We’ve been warned it’s traumatic and have been dreading it. The goal is to give them regular eye exams to catch problems like ROP. The sooner you catch it, the sooner you can fix it before long term damage occurs. We’re just hoping the babies react okay and don’t have any set backs because of the exam. I’m sure Paige will do fine, Cole, who knows, the kid’s a maniac.

That is great news that you babies are doing so well! Good luck tomorrow on the eye exam. I’m not sure if they allow you to be there for the exam, but I would recommend against it….it is much more difficult on Mom and Dad than it is on the babies. I enjoy reading your updates, and your babies will be home before you know it!

Glad to hear teh babies are doing HORRIBLY (just kidding, don’t want to jinx either)!!!!

The eye exams are bad, however; I never watched them being done. I was there for them but cic not want to watch. Theonly thing that my happen is they m ay react to the eyedrops by dropping their heart rates alot. Only one of ours reacted that way. We hated it because it lasted for a long time (basically the rest of the day). Good Luck. ROP can either resolve on its own or require surgery. We had both.

Nice pic! Makes me wonder if one day, we’ll just look back at these pictures & think…man, those days in the NICU, life was so much calmer back then.
