What a crazy day. There were talks all day that the babies might be transferred to the Thomas campus. Tobie left before shift change with no move so we figured it might happen sometime later in the week. We get a call from the NICU around 9:30 at night saying it’s time. We headed down to the NICU and helped pack up all the gear. The babies were transported in an isolet via ambulance to their new home. They tolerated the 10 minute ride just fine. I don’t think they woke up once.
Our new place is totally rad. We now have our own private room. There is a bed in the room as well. We are encouraged to bring a CD player to help with some ambient noise. This new NICU is so quiet. It’s scary! From what we have been told there is roughly one nurse to every 4 babies. This place is much more high tech so it’s a little easier for the nurses to monitor the babies without being by the bedside. We met our night nurse and the nurse practitioner. They both seemed really nice. I guess you have to have a good demeanor to be in this type of practice. We learned the nurse practitioners do 24 hour shifts. Aye Carumba!
Anyways, you would not believe how much cra..I mean baby related items we brought with us to the new room. I can only imagine how much stuff we will have to bring home when the time comes. I also witnessed the babies charts for the first time. I think we are 2 volumes shy of a complete encyclopedia collection. Anyways, it’s almost 2 AM. Time to sleep like the babies.
