Thanks for all the comments and emails of support.
Cole’s sats are about the same since we last left him. His x-rays looked worse though. With all the secretions they are pulling from his tube, it looks like pneumonia. I think the blood work-up should come back soon to confirm that.
Cole was also given a sedation drip of Versed (pain killers). If the nurse sees him alert, they are supposed to knock him out. He was awake for a little bit and his heart was racing (a sign of discomfort). I have a feeling Cole has developed Tobie’s high tolerance to pain medications. When she was hospitalized and put on magnesium, she handled it like a champ (same with the morphine!).
The plan of attack is to let Cole be. They want to wean him to 60% O2 so they don’t do lots of damage to his lungs. Which is weird because he was on the vent with 60%+ O2 for a long time. I wonder what damage was done his first 2 months of life. We are hoping he will be off the jet vent by weekend’s end.
Update 8 pm: Just spoke to the hospital. Cole needs another blood transfusion. They bumped up his vent to 80% O2 again because he had some secretions that clogged his tube and he couldn’t recover. They are also stopping the paralytic so he is awake now. Not sure why we stopped it.

good.
I hope I’m not invading your privacy by following your journey but I guess you have a blog so hopefully you’re okay with posts like this?
I have followed your journey as a result of the gharaiblets blog, which I’ve followed because they went to the same fertility clinic in Denver that I went to. I’m an IVF grad so I’m familiar with the painful, unpredicatable journey of IVF, but I had a singleton so I’m not familiar with the journey of multiples. I do know, however, the journey of parenthood which is the most rewarding but the most emotionally vulnerable life journey, and I have to say that you two are AMAZING parents — the love you feel for your children is so awesome and I believe that they all know it.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your little girl, and I’m sorry that your little Cole is having such a struggle right now, but it sounds like he is getting really good care. I am hoping with all my heart that he recovers quickly and strongly. He is such a beautiful baby, as is your little Paige. I’m glad that she’s doing so well.
I think you are in Arizona? I went to law school in Tucson and I’m sending all my support your way.
I also hope that your little ones continue to get bigger and stronger and that soon all of the anguish and challenge of parenthood is replaced with more of the joy and fun.
Please take care and know that a family in Denver has you in our heart.
Sincerely,
Sybil Kisken

Tobie and Eric,
I am wishing all the very best for your baby boy. You two are such amazing, loving and strong parents. I am sure that Cole feels your strength and love and as each day passes will become stronger and stronger because of it.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers!!
Love, Tiffany & Rob
