Tomorrow is the big day. Cole’s last surgery before discharge (crap, I hope I didn’t jinx us). I guess the surgeon who will be operating on Cole had a very long weekend in the OR so he couldn’t meet with us today. He asked if we could meet tomorrow morning at 8 am so he could get some sleep today (what about my beauty sleep? 8 am, son of a…
). Of course we said yes, take as much time as you need! We definitely don’t want a sleepy surgeon! We are still not sure if they are going to use a block or intubate him again. Come on block!
Cole’s been doing great with weight gain as he is putting on the grams each and every day. Not sure when they are going to stop his feeds for the surgery, but he’ll probably have a day or two with reduced feeds at the very least. Paige hasn’t put any weight on since taking all her feeds by bottle (remember she is feeding on demand now). We are hoping she’ll start drinking a little more and continue her weight gain. I know she won’t finish a bottle that has her vitamins in it. It smells and tastes disgusting. Part of me wishes we could just keep upping her feeds and tube feed her what she doesn’t finish in the bottle to keep her weight gain going, but she’s a true newborn now, no more special treatment! Time for her to step up to the plate.
Since Paige is now taking all her feeds by bottle, her time is limited in the NICU. There is talk she might be home as early as this Friday. I was really hoping they would come home together. What’s another week in the NICU if one of them is still there you know? So we’ve heard they don’t discharge babies on Fridays previously and now we are told she might come home Friday. So confusing.
“What? I’m coming home soon? Let’s party!”
“Ssshhhh Paige. I’m trying to get some beauty sleep before surgery. Could you take the party outside?”
“Seriously, no more. Feed me with the tube. Please, I beg you. This is madness feeding by mouth. I’m not an animal! I thought I was brought into a civilized world. Next you’ll be telling me I need to breathe without assisted oxygen. This is madness I tell you, madness. To serve man, it’s a cookbook, a cookbook! (okay I went overboard on this one, whatever)”

Stop letting Paige read all those tabloid magazines! She is letting the pressure of Hollywood keep her from gaining any more weight!
Good luck today, Cole!
I know that you’re incredibly busy, and that you’re probably not even near a computer… but just know that we’re thinking of you and hoping that Cole’s surgery is going or has gone BEAUTIFULLY!!!
I’m always near a computer! Thanks
