Fun fun fun.
Cole was taken to the doctor. He wasn’t looking right. His eyes were a tad dusky and he wasn’t taking his full feeds. We bumped up his O2 and started to look a little better but his breaths were still labored. We were just commenting last night about how he looked a little bloated. They are doing some tests right now but we think he might have some fluid on his lungs. He is on a diuretic, but he may have outgrown the dose he is on.
More later.
Update 7:30 pm: Cole’s back and is doing good. He will be on double the O2 for a little bit. He did gain 5 ounces in one day so that is a clear sign he is retaining fluid. We gave him a bolus of lasik to get rid of the fluid and we’ll be upping his daily dose of aldactizide. He has another follow-up appointment with the peed tomorrow morning.
In other news, Paige was given the go ahead to start weaning the O2. She has been doing great at a lower setting. While in the NICU the doctors were always fond of saying: “The baby lets us know when it’s time to make a change”. I think that is so true as she has ripped off her nasal prongs 4 times in the past day. She even took a full feed with no O2 today and did great. The few times we have caught her with no O2, she is satting 100%. She should be off the O2 within 2 weeks (that’s just my guess, but there is no rush).
So, we have been home a week and a half and have been to the doctor 4 times already. Phew, this is tiring.
On a side note, I had to enable word authentication in the comments section. We got hit by a spammer who posted stupid comments by using a spam program (Joe I’m looking in your direction). This feature makes sure you are human! Who knew it would be that easy to determine whether or not you are human. So if you are leaving a comment, just follow the instructions by typing in the image that is displayed in the appropriate field. (so if you type it in wrong, does that revoke your human status?).

I just found your blog after linking over from Liz McCarthy’s blog, who is a fellow Marin twins mom. I shed some tears reading your blog, but am SO inspired by your strength and commitment. I wish you and your family health and joy.

Do you think Cole would like this?

Erice & Tobie,
I just wanted to say how happy I am that the babies and the both of you are doing so well. WOW! I can’t believe it’s been 1 1/2 weeks already, seems like you just brought them home a couple of days ago, of course I’m sure your bodies don’t feel that way. I wish you and your family many blessed days.
Sincerely,
Melissa Sweetsir
