Doctor Doctor…Give Me the News

eric   August 8th, 2006

Well it only took 3 months for us to be double booked on doctor appointments. Paige had her ENT appointment at the same time Cole had his Speech appointment. So we did the only logical thing, we split them up based on sex. I took Cole and Tobie took Paige.

Paige was an absolute doll before the ENT appointment. She was playing with her toy and was very happy. That was until they jammed a camera down her nose into her throat. The doctor said her vocal cord is still paralyzed and will likely remain that way forever. The doctor said in all his experience, he has never not seen the other vocal cord compensate (am I cool with that double negative? not never, bah!!). He also said around 1 year old, Paige will have to learn to drink without thickener. Oh I’m looking forward to that. Tobie also told me the doctor was a hottie. I’m not sure what that means but lets just say I’ll be taking Paige to all future ENT appointments.

Cole has his first meeting with this new speech therapist. She’s pretty cool and seems to have lots of experience with little boys just like Cole. Luckily today Cole decided to be Classic Cole and not take the bottle. She was able to witness him in all is glory. She feels pretty confident we can help mold him into a more professional eater! She did comment many times how we have a little spitfire on our hands. Everyone keeps saying that about Cole. When is a good time to be scared?

We also had another peed appointment today. Seems Mr. Cole has done quite well for himself since his visit last week. He has gained an ounce a day and is now a svelt 12 pounds even. And the past week we had a few bad days of eating, so that’s a great accomplishment, plus he had his WMD poop this morning. While that is great news, the best news of the day is both babies are finally off of Poly Vi Sol. No more nasty iron supplements for them.

yippie !! No more brown stains on the burp cloths or trips to your phamacy friend’s to doctor up the disgusting taste! Glad to hear of the weight gain on Cole’s part too. What will Paige’s paralyed vocal cord mean for her down the road? Affect speach, eating or both?

Paige’s vocal cord issue just means that she will most likely have a sexy “breathy” voice. She shouldn’t have any issues with eating or speech. Knock on wood.

And don’t forget Tob, how much nicer it will be when she is a teenager trying to scream at you! Good to know that she will eventually get to drink without thickener! Also good to hear about the stinky Poly Vi Sol being gone and the weight gain!
      YAY!
