Sooner Than Later

Do you know what irks me? People who speed in mini-vans. No, speeding in any other car doesn’t bother me, but speeding, swerving in and out of traffic driving a mini-van, that’s just wrong. Okay, now that I got that off my chest…

Lately Cole is tearing it up on the floor. He’s into everything. We have our family room sectioned off from the rest of the house (dubbed the baby zone). If Cole sees something in the ‘zone’, he attacks it. If he sees the laptop out, he heads right for it and promptly puts the laptop power cord in his mouth. I guess I’ll be baby proofing the house sooner than later. I don’t know about your kids, but Cole is pretty much on the go from the moment he wakes up till the moment we put him down for the night. When we leave the ‘zone’ we try to put Cole as far as possible from Paige. If you didn’t know, Paige is Cole’s favorite toy. Today we left the room for just a few seconds. By the time we got back, Cole had traversed the room and had already started to rip off her glasses while Paige had a big chunk of his hair in her hand. They are going to be the best of friends!

Tonight Tobie had put Cole in his crib for bed. She then went downstairs to get Paige. When she came back up, guess who was standing in his crib? That’s right, he’s figured out how to stand. His balance isn’t the greatest, but he’s trying to pull up on just about everything. You can’t even hold him anymore because he acts like he has to get somewhere quickly that isn’t your arms! I guess we are lowering his mattress sooner than later. Even feeding him at night is becoming more difficult. He’ll try to flip onto his belly while you are feeding him in your arms. People, he’s doing this in his sleep! How the heck are we supposed to feed him if he’s always on his belly?

Miss Popeye Arms

And then there is Miss Paige. She was rolling over on her belly today to grab toys. This is a huge step roll forward for her. She literally hasn’t moved more than an inch on her back since she moved in last May. Today Paige had a blast kicking mommy in the back. Every time she would kick Tobie in the back, Tobie would go “Paige, ouch!” This caused Paige to give a huge belly laugh and kick mommy again. This little episode went on for a few minutes. Cause and effect is very cool. If you prop her up, she can sit unassisted for many minutes. Of course you have to prop her up because heaven’s forbid she show any initiative!

We ended up at our favorite eyeglass store today. Paige had scratched her glasses with her teeth. If she were a James Bond villain, her nickname would be Jaws. Apparently the scratch is deep enough you can’t buff it out. Anyone out there ever try to buff the scratches on their polycarbonate lens? We’re going to drop the glasses of Monday so hopefully we’ll have them back the same week. Cole on the other hand needs to have his glasses sent back to the factory because guess who filled the wrong prescription? Yep, they reversed the prescription in each eye. What are the odds this would happen to us? They are supposed to check the prescription when it comes back from the factory. I guess we slipped through the cracks that day. I hate having to rely on others for the well being of our children. Hopefully this didn’t set Cole back at all. We visit a lot of doctors, hospitals, and clinics, but we keep having stupid issues with this place. What can I say, we are gluttons for punishment! :)

FWIW, the same thing happened with Zoe and her glasses. First she scratched them and then her second pair was the wrong prescription. By accident, they used the old prescription instead of the new. All I can say, is these things happen.

We’ve also heard some other stories from our doctor about this place.

Unfortunately there is no excuse for incompetence.

Melissa if I knew the secret I would tell! Paige is the complete opposite of Cole, her rolling on her side is a huge win for us. I guess they have to want to do it and Cole’s been wanting to do it since the day he almost flipped himself out of the isolet in the NICU.

Its funny… Presleigh is a combo of both these two monkeys :-) She wants out of whereever you confine her (your arms, chair, bumbo, exersaucer, crib…), but put her on the floor and she rolls to her side and is mostly content there, except when she can’t reach the newest thing that has caught her eye. Will have to wait n see as she gets her Doc Band helmet on Thurs, so I imagine there will be a few days of adjustment. She may get so fustrated she starts running.

VERY very impressive - both of your kids! Neither of ours will even roll onto their belly, closest we can get is they’ll roll on their side to get to a toy… and an unassisted sit lasts only seconds (split-seconds). I tell you, with all of the hurdles you all have had to face, nothing seems to be slowing them down! (Even though Paige is not quite up to Cole’s speed, she’s still light years ahead of our girls.) I know that comparing is inevitable, but just wanted to give you a different standard of comparison than your too-fast-too-catch son. :)

      Tobie & Eric,
I continue to follow your blog and am amazed at how big Paige & Cole are getting, it seems like they were just born I always say they grow entirely too fast. They are absolutely gorgeous babies, you two are doing such a terrific job with them.
