    I got yer post!

    eric   March 28th, 2007      13 comments...sweet!

For now on I’m not going to post until the previous post has at least 10 comments. Loving me some comments (J/K about not posting).

Paige looking out!Things are good, real good. Tobie’s aunt is here all week helping out. It’s been fabulous! Tobie had a laundry list of projects to accomplish during her visit. They are all done (ahead of schedule I might add). Thanks also to Nicole for coming over to help on her day off! The babies have been great as usual. Cole is eating table food better than ever. He’s eating so well that the feeding therapist is probably going to stop treatments in the next month. Now if we could only get him to eat more volume (is it wrong to always want more?). Paige also started using the walker. She is so proud of herself (I’ll be posting a video later). She’s also getting so much better with her separation anxiety. She’s even getting better at self play. Pretty soon she’ll be Miss Independent!

P & C fighting for the window We had our OB appointment today. We set a C-section date for April 30th if we don’t go before 39 weeks. It seems just like yesterday Tobie was telling me she had some unbelievable news. Oh how time flies. We had another ultrasound today. The baby now weighs above 6 pounds. That puts him in the 70th percentile which means he’s charting about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. The OB is worried we are going to have a very big baby, making a C-section almost mandatory. Come 37 weeks we’ll be doing all the old wives tales to get him out to avoid having a C-section. We got another great shot of his head in 4D. I’ll try to post that later.

    Firemen/firewomen rock

    eric   March 25th, 2007      1 comment...cool!

    Tobie here:

Yesterday we got our car seats installed. I am so glad we made an appointment and had them professionally installed because there is a lot involved with car seats that I think the average person would not be aware of. For instance, a forward-facing car seat should not recline and a rear-facing car seat needs to have the shoulder straps below the shoulder. We ended up with the new baby in our 3rd row. This leaves enough room in the back for a small stroller and my diaper bag. For such a huge SUV, there’s really not a whole lot of room. It reminds me of the game LIFE where sometimes you can get so many babies that there’s not enough room in your car piece to hold them all and you end up stacking the babies on top of each other.

I do have to say that while there was a hot fireman there (a twin himself born at 32 weeks…what is with the whole firemen/twin connection?? The last fireman to install our first car seat just had twins. To top it off, the fire-lady had a 15 month old son named Cole. Talk about six degrees. Is Cole going to end up a fireman??), I think Cole was smitten with a hot fire-lady. She took Eric, Paige, and Cole to see the firetrucks up close while I stayed behind with the installation. Apparently they were too young to appreciate the gesture, but the fire crew said we can come back anytime when the babies are older to see the firetrucks up close. How nice are the fire staff?

Another topic I have to whine about is Paige’s nighttime crying/screaming episodes. I am getting tired of them. If we get to her relatively quickly we can lay her back down and she falls asleep pretty fast (within a minute). But she is waking up wailing about 2-3 times a night. Not good. I want to break her of this habit. So last night we let her cry it out for about 10-15 minutes before going to her. By this time she was screaming sooooo loud it was torturous to listen to. It also took me a lot longer to calm her back to sleep because she was sobbing so bad (about 5 minutes). And on top of it all, she woke Cole up last night and he wouldn’t calm down until I brought him in to see that Paige was all right. I bet you’re wondering how I knew he was freaked about Paige. He was staring at the door to his room trying to jump out of my arms until I took him to see Paige…then he literally fell asleep within seconds after realizing everything was okay. After all this drama…it’s been about 45 minutes by now….Mommy could not fall back asleep and it’s really hard to get to sleep as it is with the big belly, heartburn, need to have pillows just right for side-sleeping. So today is going to be a long, long, long day! Boo hoo! And the worst part is that I want to do it all over again tonight so Paige realizes that waking up screaming is fun for no one and hopefully she’ll stop.

    They’re growing up too fast!!

    tobie   March 23rd, 2007      2 comments...sweet!

    Tobie here:

Where are my babies? I think I officially have toddlers now. They just seem to be accomplishing so much every day/week it's amazing. From Cole babbling– to Paige crawling faster than Cole to get around– to both of them trying so hard to walk….these things seemed so far off a couple weeks ago. They are definitely asserting their personalities too. I know when they are happy and the whole neighborhood knows when they are miserable. Operation Tough Love has been a success this whole week. Some days are harder than others, but this is understandable because I am basing the Operation on the premise that both babies have the same sleep needs and are tired at the same time of day. Imagine being the baby that isn't that tired and having to take a nap because your sibling is rubbing his/her eyes. But all in all, going down for a nap after lunch wide awake and falling asleep on your own is going pretty well. The only problem I can forsee is that one nap a day means they are spazzing out around 5:30pm and bedtime is still 1.5 hours away. (this is what is going on right now!!) Another kink to Operation Tough Love is I was carrying both babies upstairs at once, reading a story to both babies at once, then lifting both babies at once into their cribs for nap. With my contractions flaring up on Tuesday, I decided this probably wasn't the best move. So luckily between my mom and good friend Nic, I have had help during nap time the last few days. My aunt will be here next week to help with putting the babies down, and we have broken down and hired a young girl to help us the week after that. The girl we hired will be helping in the afternoons every weekday for 6 weeks and then for 3 hours in the evening the remainder of the summer starting in late May. This will be extremely helpful in getting three babies past their crazy tired hour, getting them bathed in the evening, fed and put to bed. I also don't know how tired I'll be with the new baby's arrival so having her help should be a relief.

What else is going on? Paige learned how to clap with open hands today. She used to keep one hand fisted and clap over that hand with the other hand. Cole is babbling more and more. I've also started leaving a blanket in their beds for a "security blanket". My grandma (aka G-G-ma) made beautiful afgans for them when they were in the NICU. We used to cover their isolets with them to block out light so these blankets mean a lot to me too. Anyways, Cole absolutely loves his blanket and I wish I wasn't so freaked over SIDS and had used the blanket a long time ago because watching him curl up in his blankie and nestle his head in it is the cutest thing ever.

I don't think I can end this blog entry without commenting on what a relief the fetal fibronectin result was. I was trying to convince myself that a 34 weeker was not so bad, but knowing I should make it to 36 weeks now is so much nicer. I so want a full-term baby this pregnancy and I really want the baby to come from the hospital with me. I'm sure most pregnant people don't even consider their babies not coming home with them, but after a 4 month NICU experience last time, I think my heart would be broken if the new baby even had to spend a minute in the NICU. I would feel like a failure all over again too if that happened. So relief is not a good description of how I feel today after receiving that FFN result.

A Little Spice For The Blog

Paige: “Hey don’t eat without me”.

    Not the best eating session.

It’s been a rough week for Tobie. She started having a lot of contractions. We were finally able to see our OB today. The good news is her cervix is still closed, but we did a fFN test to see where we are at. Dr. F has also put Tobie on modified bed rest. Sounds great in theory, but I don’t think Paige and Cole are going to cooperate. Luckily Aunt Nancy is here for a week starting Saturday (aren’t you lucky Nancy!).

The babies are doing great. They are really starting to interact with each other. Paige has gotten so mobile, she’s now giving Cole a run for his money.

UPDATE (Fri 9:30 AM): The fFN test came back negative. So we should make it well past 35 weeks. Phew! So does this mean I don’t have to clean the dishes and take out the trash since Tobie’s not that close to labor?

    Happy Birthday Daddy

    eric   March 20th, 2007      5 comments...sweet!

Tobie here: Yesterday was Eric’s b-day. Happy Birthday to Daddy!! We didn’t capture any photos of the celebration. Eric is a little weird when it comes to birthdays. He says he doesn’t like a big fuss, but secretly I think he does. Anyways, Cole’s b-day gift to Daddy was he started saying “Da-Da” yesterday and has been saying it ever since. How cute!!!

    Happy Birthday Eric!

    Busy weekend

    eric   March 19th, 2007      5 comments...sweet!

    Tobie here:

We had a busy busy weekend this last weekend, but nothing in comparison to the coming weekend. We went to the Mothers of Multiples sale on Saturday which is a huge sale the organization has twice a year. There was a lot of things to buy, mostly clothes, but the main things we went for weren’t available. We need a new triplet stroller. This is so ironic because we had bought a really nice one last year for the triplets (which I pretty much made Eric give away after Kaylee passed) because seeing it in the garage made me so emotional I didn’t want to go into the garage until it was gone. Now I think we’re going to need one. Or a heavy-duty back carrier in the meantime so I can carry Cole on my back and push the new baby and Miss Paige. (No way I’m carrying Paige on my back!!). What we ended up walking away with from the sale was maternity clothes for $1 to finish out my pregnancy with. Yes, you read that right, $1.

We also attempted Operation Tough Love this weekend. The first day it was great. After shopping all day and going to Chick-Fil-A for lunch the babies were pretty sacked out and fell asleep after 4 min of crying for Paige, and 1 minute for Cole. Yesterday was not so successful and Operation Tough Love may need some more consideration. We are attempting to put the babies to bed without bottles, wide awake, and on a set time schedule. If it works, it would be extremely helpful when the new baby arrives. Up until now, I would rock both babies to nap, usually giving Cole a bottle. I would have to do one baby at a time, taking up to 20 minutes per baby and by the time the second baby was down, the first baby would be waking up. I could still do this even with the new baby…but it would be a lot easier if naps would just be a “sure, okay Mom, I’ll go to sleep now” thing. Speaking of sleeping…Paige is definitely sleeping through the night now. She will still wake up two or three times a night standing on the edge of her crib wailing until someone comes and puts her back down. It only takes ~1 minute to put her back to sleep so I consider this sleeping through the night. She normally doesn’t resist being laid back down. Cole has been sleeping through the night for the last three nights which is good and bad. Good for Mommy, bad for Cole’s weight gain as we like to get one more bottle in him per day. And no, he is not compensating for the lost bottle during the day.

This coming week I am so excited about. Saturday I have an appt with some hot firemen to install our car seats. Cole unfortunately will still not be forward-facing since he is 1 pound shy of the requirement, but he will be graduating to the big-boy car seat and handing over his infant seat to his new little brother. My aunt also comes into town on Saturday, my parents are on spring break, and we are going to have a project-filled week of decorating the babies’ rooms and organizing closets, assembling furniture, making my room also a nursery and putting up black-out shades on the windows since it’s so hot and bright during the day. Eric will be installing even more baby gates throughout our house (it’s ridiculous how many baby gates are needed), hopefully getting our pool fence ordered, and otherwise baby-proofing the remainder of the house. It’s not so much of nesting for the new baby, but more desperately trying to finish what is needed for these guys. Okay, maybe a little excitement for the new baby too. I washed all our outfits for the hospital this weekend and started putting together my hospital bag too. It’s getting close!! :)

It’s never too early to start flossing!

Looking for Cole’s pants in the ancient Chinese chest!

His new glasses (which he won’t wear) will automatically tint when outside. He wouldn’t squint so much with them on. To bad he won’t wear them.

    Self portrait. Not too shabby!
