Tobie here:
Yesterday we got our car seats installed. I am so glad we made an appointment and had them professionally installed because there is a lot involved with car seats that I think the average person would not be aware of. For instance, a forward-facing car seat should not recline and a rear-facing car seat needs to have the shoulder straps below the shoulder. We ended up with the new baby in our 3rd row. This leaves enough room in the back for a small stroller and my diaper bag. For such a huge SUV, there’s really not a whole lot of room. It reminds me of the game LIFE where sometimes you can get so many babies that there’s not enough room in your car piece to hold them all and you end up stacking the babies on top of each other.
I do have to say that while there was a hot fireman there (a twin himself born at 32 weeks…what is with the whole firemen/twin connection?? The last fireman to install our first car seat just had twins. To top it off, the fire-lady had a 15 month old son named Cole. Talk about six degrees. Is Cole going to end up a fireman??), I think Cole was smitten with a hot fire-lady. She took Eric, Paige, and Cole to see the firetrucks up close while I stayed behind with the installation. Apparently they were too young to appreciate the gesture, but the fire crew said we can come back anytime when the babies are older to see the firetrucks up close. How nice are the fire staff?
Another topic I have to whine about is Paige’s nighttime crying/screaming episodes. I am getting tired of them. If we get to her relatively quickly we can lay her back down and she falls asleep pretty fast (within a minute). But she is waking up wailing about 2-3 times a night. Not good. I want to break her of this habit. So last night we let her cry it out for about 10-15 minutes before going to her. By this time she was screaming sooooo loud it was torturous to listen to. It also took me a lot longer to calm her back to sleep because she was sobbing so bad (about 5 minutes). And on top of it all, she woke Cole up last night and he wouldn’t calm down until I brought him in to see that Paige was all right. I bet you’re wondering how I knew he was freaked about Paige. He was staring at the door to his room trying to jump out of my arms until I took him to see Paige…then he literally fell asleep within seconds after realizing everything was okay. After all this drama…it’s been about 45 minutes by now….Mommy could not fall back asleep and it’s really hard to get to sleep as it is with the big belly, heartburn, need to have pillows just right for side-sleeping. So today is going to be a long, long, long day! Boo hoo! And the worst part is that I want to do it all over again tonight so Paige realizes that waking up screaming is fun for no one and hopefully she’ll stop.

We started doing this, and I’ve been calling it night terrors because I have no idea what else it is… its like Presleigh has had a bad dream or something. If I go in and pick her up and cuddle her for about 5 mins, she will lay right back down and back to sleep, but I can’t let her wake Rachel who has school so I don’t let her scream too long. Going to bed is our screaming session - like she is going to miss something. So when its bedtime, I have to turn off the tv, turn off the lights, lock the door etc and tell her its bedtime. Rachel’s door gets closed, we pretend she’s gone to bed.. it is quite a rigamaroll.
I’m with you, I hope it gets better soon.
