It’s 4 in the morning…
Tobie: Hey you awake?
Eric: I am now.
Tobie: I think my water broke.
Eric: Really?
Tobie: Or maybe I peed all over myself.
Eric: Do you pee in the bed often?
Tobie: Not that I know of.
Eric: Well then your water probably broke. Just to be sure, find a dry spot in the bed and wake me up if you are still leaking.
We were so close to a VBAC I could taste the amniotic fluid it. Things were going fine in the hospital. Her water was broken, her contractions were coming more frequently, she was slowly dilating. We thought for sure we would have a VBAC late in the afternoon. Not so fast said the baby. The baby’s heart rate dropped around 11 am and before we knew it, Tobie was in the OR having a c-section. Looks like the cord was wrapped around his neck 3 times. Thanks to the OB team, they were able to get the baby out within minutes.
Please welcome Drew Colin into the world. He was a robust 7 pounds 9 ounces. Drew and mom are doing great!
Oh, only one person guessed the name Drew. Stephanie wins. Steph’s prize? She gets to keep reading the blog! Yeah!

Ok, I have been reading your blog since I randomly stumbled upon it while on maternity leave this past summer. Since then I read it every day, which probably makes me some sort of cyberstalker…but in a good way I assure you! Anyway, I have clearly become attached to guys because I almost started crying when I saw that little Drew had arrived. Hearty congrats. Can’t wait to hear how bizarre it is to have one big full-term baby in the house. Both mine were born a little early but the first was sick for a little while and the second was so much bigger at birth that I just kept freaking out about being home with a robust newborn and no plugs/cords/wires/other medical stuff on him!
