Tobie here: Today was a rough Monday. We got off to a late start this morning and I don’t think we ever caught up. Yesterday afternoon we spent a few hours at my parents’ house swimming and having dinner. I convinced my mom that the babies need to spend time with their grandparents on a regular basis. I think it’s important for them to grow up around family other than Eric and I. So during the summer we are going to start going to their house for Sunday evenings. Hopefully we’ll settle into a routine and P and C will come to look forward to it. Anyways we got home late and the babies slept in late which caused Eric to go to work late….and so on.Father’s Day was a flop too. I bought those plaster hand print things and was planning on making hand prints of the babies for Eric to put up at work. Great in theory but the babies have to hold perfectly still for over a minute. Paige dozed off for a second so I got a great footprint of her gigantic foot, Cole’s footprint was unrecognizable because he wouldn’t hold still (squirmy wormy in the house), and Drew was impossible to do without help. So Daddy only got one footprint of one of his three babies. It’ll get better in years to come when the babies make their own disastrous creations and they can take all the credit.
Today we took everyone to the park to feed the ducks. We were hoping that they would actually throw the bread to the ducks which is a great therapy skill. Mostly I was hoping they would focus on the ducks and not on eating the bread. Paige was cracking up every time the ducks quacked which was AWESOME and Cole mostly squinted in the sun and looked like he just wanted to go back into the car. I’m so glad that now they know what ducks are. We also introduced them to fish yesterday with my brother’s fish tanks. That was cool because they were pointing to the fish as they were swimming around. Life experiences!!
Last nifty thought before bed…Paige finally started to seat herself in one of her little cars. She’s been working really hard at getting her leg over the car seat and claps every time she gets it right. Then today she learned how to push herself around in the car. What a smart girl!! I should mention that Cole has learned to sit in the car a while back but he still looks at you after he climbs in like “Hey, what are you waiting for? Push me Mommy!“.
Drew still continues to be pretty fussy. It seems now that when he’s awake he is mostly crying. I feel so bad for him and really cherish the moments he’s alert and happy. We’ve found that one trick in getting him calm is to blast rap music. The more base the better. He’s our little OG, Original Gangsta. And yes, we’ve tried other music and it doesn’t calm him; it has to be rap music. Word, yo!

The look on Moxie’s face is priceless.. And yay Paige! We figured that out this week too, but we just get in, then get out…then get in, then get out..ad nauseum.
Sorry you had such a rough day! Cooper likes bluegrass music, so that is almost as bad as rap music (maybe worse). Hopefully you’ll have a better day today!
I did the same thing last year -thinking it would be so neat for Jason to have a footprint/handprint thing & Hayden did the same thing - wiggled all over….ours looks JUST LIKE Cole’s ……so don’t feel bad.
Next year, take a pen (while you ares tanding right there of course) & ket them color in his card. I bet he’ll love that. (that is what I did this year). Although Hayden did want to eat the pen….
Hey - the music thing…It could be George Michael
Or even worse Michael Jackson….
Ha ha ha !!
Are you still totally against trying some formula ?? I keep hearing from MANY girlfriends that have fussy babies that they try the Nestle Goodstart w/ comfort proteins & it works…..might be worth a try (not to mention it is one of the cheapest name brand formulas)
Call me too- I want to hear more about the trip to your paretns - sounds wel, um … interesting….

Sorry you had a rough day. I have always done handprints and footprints when the kids are asleep. It seems to work a bit better that way, as I can hold them still, and since they’re asleep, I can clean them up afterward without screaming and crying. I hope your sister’s in a better mood next visit.
Sorry for the hard day… it is never fun when the day starts in a ‘icky’ way because it is always so hard to get out of it.
I think it is great that your kids are doing so well… as for the blasting of music…Delainey was like tht except she liked that heavy metal stuff–which worked for her daddy but not so much for me… ha ha!!
Happy Belated Father’s Day Eric!!!
Love-

Hello there, well I have posted a couple of times before and as always I love to read about your beautiful babies and am always greatful for both you and Eric’s updates. First, Happy belated Father’s Day! I am from Argentina and my Mom always would recommend when my kids were small and fussy to give them some chamomile (sp?) tea. Brew it kind of lite, wait till its luke warm and give him a little. It can’t hurt???
Hope that helps!
The fact that rap music calms him is hilarious!
Sorry you guys had a rough day… But you have the coolest babies ever!
Hi there, I have never commented before, but wanted to throw this out. I know that Cole had reflux, so you are familiar with it, but what Drew is doing is exactly what my son did. At first they thought it was Colic, but at my LC’s insistence I had him checked for reflux. Turned out he had full blown GERD, but most specifically Silent GERD, so he actually didn’t spit up any more then the next baby. Good luck!

I think instead of the rock lullaby conversions a new tactic is needed:
http://www.google.com/musica?aid=F4czS59tmTB&sa=X&oi=music&ct=result
http://www.aceofbase.co.uk/
Ha! That is EXACTLY how my son was. Only rap music. Outkast was his favorite. He was fussy until I did the elimination diet (all dairy.) It helped SO MUCH. It was like a brand new baby. But interestingly he was a perfect angel for about the first 3 weeks, then the screaming started. I hope you find out what is wrong. I’m not a big believer in “colic” there is almost always a cause. Dairy intolerance or reflux is usually to blame.
As you wish pottery at Desert Ridge does the greatest handprint footprints. I have one for each of my kids. They only do them a few times of year. Try and call them to see when they will do them again. It is so hard to do at home.
Ava has recently decided that her favorite musical artist is Eminem. Ten seconds! I swear it was only on for ten seconds! How could she possibly develop a preference in ten measly seconds?!?!
Interestingly, she was also my colicky baby. Perhaps there is some sort of twisted correlation there.
Happy Father’s Day, Eric!!!
