Sweet whispers to start the morning

tobie   June 24th, 2007

Tobie here: Just whisper sweet nothings in my ear first thing in the morning and geez! sets the whole day off right. That was Drew whispering in my ear in case you were wondering. He was cooing and smiling at me in bed for about an hour this morning. That has to be the best way to wake up. So the three kids and I are enjoying waffles this morning while letting Daddy sleep in. How great is that?? So something interesting I've noticed lately. I normally have P and C sit next to each other in their highchairs for meals. P has a tendency to throw her sippy cup on the floor but lately she's putting it on her tray where C can easily grab and drink it. Sharing!! This morning I just caught him giving her his waffles. Can you feel the love?

So something I'm really bummed about. My parents gave us my sister's old Little Tikes house/slide set which is so cool for playing chase and hide-go-seek and learning not to freak out around slides. My mom washed it down at their house because they used it outside and we were planning on using it inside our house because it's so freakin' hot. There was still water trapped inside so we kept it outside our house for a few days to dry it out. Then we put it together (no easy feat) and realized there was still water in it, disassembled, re-dried outside, and reassembled only to discover that it now smells like cat urine. Bad. I didn't know that smell was cat urine, but my girl told me that once you smell cat urine on stuff you don't forget the smell. So we wiped it down with antibacterial wipes, still smells. So now my mom suggested disassembling it again and bringing it to their house to soak in a bleach solution. I don't know if the cat got to it at their house or ours so this may be futile. We looked it up online to see how much a new one would cost and these things are $180 plus shipping. Wow! I'd love to save it…we'll see. By the way…the Little Tikes website is a dangerous place for a parent trying not to spend money!

The cat urine smell may just be dirty stale water smell. I’d dissasemble it, and spray it inside and out with something like lysol that won’t take a million years to dry. If there is any way to spray INSIDE the pieces, I’d do that too!

My 4 month old wiggles and coos till she wakes me up in the morning, too. Delicious!

hey…that is the same thing that happened to that little tykes car bed we first bought….same smell…I was told it was the water trapped inside, not necisarily cat urine….anyways, ours never went away…so we bought a new one.
TRY CRAIGSLIST.org !!! You will find one under baby/kids - I see them on there all the time & there are ones on there that say, only played with inside…

I hope you get the smell out! It’s horrible! Blech! Stay away from the Step 2 website as well, it’s just as bad!

yes, I’ll be the 3rd to tell you it is not cat urine, but old water that smells like that- like a basement w/water damage. Best of luck getting it out. I know those things are pricey, my husband came home with a plastic house for our daughter a few months ago, and I thought- “oh he bought it at Kmart, can’t be over $100″ Well, almost $300 later!
So when we move we’ll be sure to clean it off by hand and not to hose it down…thanks :)

      Tob,
when your sister in law is a baby/preschool buyer at a toy store, all you have to do is send pictures of what you are looking for. chances are i will have something very close to it for you at either free or 30+ discount!

PS, I have something similar with more functions to that plastic house/slide thing. it is more money though and would be a lot with shipping.

We have the kangaroo climber from Step2.

You can pick them up from WalMart and Target, but Step2’s shipping prices trump Little Tikes. Our five year old still plays on this one. We also picked up the Little Tikes Playground on Craigslist and that worked well…no cat smell, but be careful when you buy it to check for the smell.

      Good luck!!

We had water in a little tykes house and ended up using a drill to put holes in the bottom so the water could really drain out. It stopped smelling after air was allowed inside for a few days.

If you do really have cat urine, most pet stores sell enzymatic cleaners. This will not only get rid of the smell to humans, it will also get rid of the smell to cats so that the cats do not re-pee on the playset.
