Off They Go!

I would have helped, but someone had to hold the camera.

Million dollar smile!

Everyone in the house helps Cole feed, including the baby.

On Saturday the babies attended their first birthday party (thank you very much the for the hospitality godparents Matt and Laurie, are you happy now Matt?). It was absolute bedlam. Kids running everywhere, people swimming, parents eating, it was great. The babies are doing better in better in normal social settings. We were going to go swimming, but there was a lot of activity in the pool. Cole did wander outside and that’s how he got his little head wound (which is looking much better today). When Matt’s dad brought Cole in crying and I saw his face, I was like SH#@, I think I caught myself before I finished the non-kid friendly word, as there was like a group of 3 year olds around. Ooops! Drew ended up falling in love with Laurie’s mom. Thank you for spending most of the day helping us out honorary grandma Pat! Do you know the best part of birthday parties? Gift bags. Finally these kids are starting to pay off. Since they are too young for the goodies, it goes straight to daddy’s belly!

Today has been an odd day. The babies slept past 7 AM. When I went to check on them, they were just chilling in their cribs. This never happens in our house. Every other day these babies are screaming their heads off when they wake up before 6 AM. A very nice Sunday morning treat, nonetheless. Drew is still growing like a weed. We think he’s got some colic. Many times during the day he is so inconsolable. It’s starting to wear on us. Come 6 PM, he’s usually crying for at least 2 hours off and on. We’re eliminating everything from Tobie’s diet to see if that makes a difference.

C & P still aren’t that interested in him, but they are interested in his bouncy chair. It’s pretty funny seeing Cole climb in and out of his old chair (just not that funny when Drew is in it). Cole is starting to run a little. He’ll come out of nowhere at full speed and then just stop on a dime. It’s pretty funny. Paige is just weeks away from walking everywhere. She’s going to be a great walker, you can just tell. Both babies seem to play in the same corners of the room, but not with each other. It’s weird how they want to be near each other, but never acknowledge each other. Maybe they are using some weird brain thing to communicate. Gotta go, all the sudden my brain tells me I must give babies ice cream sandwiches for dinner. Weird that doesn’t sound right, oh well, gotta do what my brain tells me.

The One Where We Started To Get Out

    eric   June 6th, 2007      4 comments...sweet!

    Mr. Cheeks

    Tobie here:

Where to begin? Haven’t written in a while and so much is happening. First off, funny story. Eric’s mom sends care packages about few months or so. We got one recently and there were pajamas for P and C (thank you! they are soooo cute) and stuff for Drew. Also in the box were women’s underwear. I was thinking “why is my mother-in-law sending me undies?”. I ran a bunch of reasons through my head until I realized that when she was out visiting I was complaining because my underwear rode right on my incision site. So being the great mom-in-law that she is, bought me the high rise undies. Thanks!

Such a loud cryOur party on Sunday was fantastic. I know Eric mentioned it in a previous post, but the day was great. Drew was the best baby ever. He slept through the whole service, only opening his eyes to get his holy bath, then went right back to sleep. He’s doing great. The only thing is that he gets cranky around 6:30 PM every night. I think it must be something I’m eating or caffeine consumption, 0r he just is like his siblings and doesn’t want to go to bed. Last night he woke me up to eat around 11 PM (he’s still eating every three hours) and I laid him next to me in bed. I woke up at 4 am and we both were in the exact same position. I have no idea if he was feeding himself as I slept…but I was excited to have 5 hours straight of sleep for a change. Did I mention he’s huge? Did I mention that all family members need to hassle Eric about getting me a new SUV with a bench backseat because it is getting really a pain in the tush to crawl through the trunk to get Drew in the car?

I started working out this week. I’m sore and loving it. Paige and Cole are still unsure about the Romper Room. The first day Cole just cruised around the room checking everything out while Paige clung to the staff. It was cute watching them on the video monitor. Today the roles changed and Cole was very clingy and Paige was checking out the place. All in all I think it’s good for them to have new experiences and I only work out maximum of one hour so it’s not too awful for them.

My girl J (mother’s helper) and I took all babies to the Railroad Park today to ride the train and carousel. Paige did fantastic and seemed to love riding her horse on the carousel. Cole was freaked completely on the carousel and had white knuckles when the train went through the tunnel. He just seems to have more sensory issues to work through. On a side note, we’ve been running the vacuum and Dustbuster more around him and he seems to be not freaking out as much. Anyways, the park was a lot of fun.

So part of the allergist’s recommendation for Cole was nightly baths. We’ve been doing this for about a week now. It’s a pain…but we’ve started bathing P and C together and making it part of the going-to-bed routine. It must be working because Cole’s rash and eczema have really cleared up. A mild complaint about the bath: they keep trying to stand up in the tub. It’s really bad when they both try to stand at the same time. Don’t know how to break them of this.

Future MoverPersonality wise Paige is blossoming. She learned peek-a-boo and uses her hands, toys, anything she can find to cover her eyes. She also has really started to love playing chase (which Cole has been playing for a while). It’s so cute to watch them both high tail it away from you when you try to “get them”. Paige is days away from walking exclusively. She can walk about 15 feet on her own and is braving larger and larger distances. One of Paige’s new favorite pastimes is to move chairs around in the kitchen. Sometimes when Cole is still eating in his high chair, Paige will push him around the kitchen. It’s too cute.

tantrum boyCole is mastering the tantrums. I thought Paige had mastered them, but recently Cole has started to outshine her in this department. It’s hard to leave the room because Cole sees you and starts yelling and chasing you. Then he cries and throws himself against the gates, the floor, or pieces of furniture. I think he’s going through his separation anxiety phase. It is sad to watch him interact with Paige. He follows her around the house and takes whatever toy she shows interest in. I don’t know how to react to this because I like that he’s being aggressive, but it doesn’t promote good sibling interaction. I keep hoping one day she’ll not give in so much but for now he always wins.

Got to go…Drew is fussy again.

The One Where I Took Pictures

She’s a regular ham for the camera nowadays.

Look at that gnarly scratch on his forehead.
    Chicks dig flesh wounds, right?

Our chubby boy. I have to believe he’s pushing
13 pounds because he’s HUGE (all cheeks of course)!

    Baptize This!

Drew And Mommy Enjoying the cake!
I did not get many good pictures of Cole today. From the Church
    Drew Cake

Today was Drew’s baptism. We had a small gathering of family and friends at the church and then came back to our house afterwards for some good Mexican food. I’m not going to lie, we got a little choked up at the baptism. Last year the babies had to be baptized in the NICU because they were on life support and we didn’t know if they were going to make it. We all know how that ended up. :(

It was pretty cool having everyone over at the house. We haven’t really had many people over the past year. We had a ton of kids running around. It was really cool to see them all congregate around toy central. They all seemed to play together very well. Drew was an all star today, barely making a fuss. Paige and Cole should also be praised as they were just about as dreamy as they could be. They missed their nap since the service was during their nap time. When everyone left around 3:30, they went down hard. Thank you to everyone that came and helped us celebrate.

P.S. Thank you Liz for the angel wings onsie (top left picture). It came in real handy today!

We Are Family Cole and Nic
The girls (guess which one is preggers)
Drew and his god parent, Laurie!
