She’s not going to die (at least not today)
I think Moxie may be sick. In a bad way. She has fatty tumors all over her body but the last two have popped through her skin with puss oozing out. This last one exploded on her back and a chunk of her hair was just hanging off her by the power of puss. It made me gag. I couldn’t clean her up and had to wait for Eric to come home and do it. And he gagged. The scary part is Cole loves Moxie and pets her all day long. His first word (and pretty much only word to this day) is dog. I just hope his cute little fingers don’t find their way to her open gaping sores because it’s gross and it may hurt her. She vomited all night long last night too. So guess who got to get up in the middle of the night to clean up dog vomit? I can clean up baby poop, snot, urine….but dog vomit? Yucky. Up until this point we said she doesn’t appear to be in pain and do we really want to know if Moxie is terminal with her tumors? But I think we can’t wait any longer….she has to see the vet. Then we may have a very sad Cole and Daddy on our hands. I can put in perspective and say “it’s a dog…we loved her…she had a nice long life following us across country and back…it was just her time”. It’s not like losing our daughter but it will still be a sad day. We’ll see what the vet says IF we can get her in today.

Update: Eric here: Took Moxie to the vet this afternoon. She’s going to live, live I tell you! Anyways, she’s old. She has a bunch of fatty tumors on her body. The big old lump on her neck popped through (ewwwwww). The vet said it looked like a fatty cyst (ewwwwww). It’s gross looking. She has a 2 inch hole on her neck now. The vet “expressed” (ewwwwww) the abscess to expel the rest of the gunk. Luckily we brought her in today because it got infected right away (ewwwwww). I have a feeling we’ll be seeing the vet soon when another one “pops” (ewwwwww).
Hey, tell me this, why is pet medication so much bigger than people medication? The pills I have to give Moxie would choke a horse. (ewwwwww)

Great, I wasn’t that worried about her until I read your post. Thanks.
I hope she’s going to be ok. I had to put one of my cats to sleep not too long ago. It was not a fun day or even week, that lead up to it. Pets are such great companions they let us cry and rant whenever we want and always love us. Hoping Moxie and Cole and daddy don’t have to do experience this just yet.
Confused…I may need to visit to officiate the burial? Console Eric? Clean up her open sores? None of the above, I hope!
Hope Moxie can see the vet today, and you guys get some answers. Thinking of you guys!
Val–you crack me up! I meant to visit to give Moxie one last big hug because I know how much you love her. I shouldn’t write her off though because she still chases the kids around for their pretzels like the young pup she is.
Tough news–Moxie has been in the family a long time.
Good luck.
Poor Moxie. Truly sorry for you guys. I know how I would feel if our doggie were sick. But, can I say that Val’s comment made me laugh out loud?
I’m sorry she’s ill. It’s so hard losing a pet, and dogs are really something special. We had to put ours down when our son was about 20 months, it was so hard. He still talks about her sometimes.
hugs!
It’s hard to tell sometimes where comedy and drama meet…but do let us know as soon as you know something.
Abby is also getting older (though thankfully not as pitiful as Moxie…yet). She went to jump into my car the other day…but I hadn’t opened any doors yet. WHAM. The other night she was so sound asleep she rolled over and fell off the bed. SPLAT. What’s worse is I accidentally poked her in the eye last night. Well, she turned her head as I was coming in for a pet!

“What’s worse is I accidentally poked her in the eye last night. Well, she turned her head as I was coming in for a pet!”
Is that the pet equivalent of kissing someone and knocking teeth?
I’m really glad for the update, especially as it’s good news (Homer will also be relieved.) Next dog I’m going to get pet health insurance. I mean, I already take my dog to “doggie daycare” some days, so why not also insure her health? Life insurance policy maybe?
But seriously, glad she’s still with the family!
I’m so sorry she’s sick but I am glad that I was too busy to check in to see how things were today and only checked AFTER the update was up. Dogs are so cool and I wish that ours (who had terminal liver disease and an autoimmune condition) had made it…she finally gave up eating and moving around a week before Hallie came home. Hallie has managed to inherit a lot of her habits, nonetheless (alas, this includes vomiting and excessive drooling). Anyway, we’re thrilled to hear that Moxie will make it. The pus sounds yucky, though!
