10 Months Old - Backyard Style

Head Butt
Of course we could of prevented them head butting each other, but then how would we get the picture? It’s about sacrificing for your art, right?

Drew
Trapped!

I mentioned before the conversation Tobie and I had about what if we only had one kid. Right now I couldn’t imagine life without Drew in the mix. He adds so much to the lives of Cole and Paige.  Being the youngest, Drew is our guinea pig.  He’s helping us teach Cole and Paige many life skills.  Drew loves just about any toy you put in front of him.  Cole and Paige love just about any toy Drew is playing with.  Of course their first instinct is to take, but we’ve taught them to share by always giving the toy back to Drew (sharing between them is a different story, but you have to start somewhere, right?).  Since Drew is just starting to figure things out, he gets hurt a lot by falling into toys or furniture.  We’ve taught the kids compassion by showing them how to comfort Drew when he is hurt.

Drew’s gross motor skills are off the chart.  He seems to master things in just a few days.  Just a few days ago he started walking about 2-4 steps with a walker, now he does laps around the house.  We have to follow him just in case the walker gets a way from him, because has the unfortunate habit of falling head first.  He is so happy when he’s walking with the other kids.  The downstairs of our house creates a circle around our stairs to the second story.  Drew has now done 3 laps and shows no signs of slowing down.  If I ever get my video camera working, I’ll put a video up (actually, I just bought a HD camcorder, don’t tell Tobie).  It’s quite funny to see, both Paige and Cole are pulling their respective cars around the circle with Drew trying to keep up in the walker.  He also mastered the stairs in just a few days.  One day we just let him loose and he just crawl up the entire flight of stairs.  Does the youngest child have an advantage in life by watching their older siblings?  If so, Paul (my brother), you can thank me, I must have taught you everything you need to know by you watching me.  hahaha.

Drew’s babbling like a mad man.  It’s crazy to think just a week ago he was only grunting.  It’s like he skipped the “dadas” and the “mamas” and went straight to almost talking.

If there is one negative to having Drew, it’s that he is freaking heavy!  I want to say he weighs more than Cole now.  We haven’t had a weight check in a while.  He’s more compact than Cole, so he feels a lot heavier.  Plus we don’t have to carry the other 2 kids around anymore, except for down the stairs.  We are trying to wean them off of that.

2 more months to the big 1 year!  Can’t wait.

Oops…I think she already knows about the camera (see Tobie post of 2-3-08). When you pick up Drew, please have a new respect for your parents who had to lug you around (Drew is lighter than you were at that age) and yes Paul did learn from you (but we won’t go into that here and now. Love, from guess who?
