Thank You Card By Lane
Thank you for the get well package Lane! How did you know I like Elmo?

Updates: We had a great Easter weekend besides for Cole’s pneumonia. My grandma aka G-G-ma visited along with my aunt and cousin. G-G-ma hadn’t met Drew yet and last time she saw the babies was the summer after they were discharged from the NICU. It was sooooo nice having them here and our house feels so empty with them gone. If my girl J doesn’t come back to us this summer as promised, I’m really going to try and get a high school student to help out in the afternoons. Our kids just seem to gravitate and respond well to younger kids like their cousin and aunt Kim.

Whistle Blowing

Cole is doing much better with his lungs. We had his second glaucoma check yesterday morning and the results were much better than the first testing. One eye had a pressure of 17 and the other eye was 12. Last time both eyes measured 20 on a scale of 10-21. So the doc said that we don’t need to do any glaucoma checks unless his prescription drastically changes again. Let’s hope not…I don’t think it could get drastically worse! My next issue with Cole is the dumb GI tube dilemma again. Our last GI appt the doc talked about it and since Cole’s eating has not improved at all this last year, I was leaning towards it. Especially seeing how much bigger Drew is than Cole…it’s killing me. But I talked to my peed again about it this week. My peed is incredible and he never was for the tube and still isn’t. But he is sending me back to Pulmonology (we were discharged last year) and to their nutritionist, endocrinology, GI, then back to the peed in three weeks to review everyone’s findings and opinions. I’m glad that he’s coordinating all this and it’s happening fast and we’ll make a well-informed decision. It’s just a LOT of appts in one month. And that’s just Cole. I still have eye appts for Paige and a 1-year check-up for Drewski.

Drew being cute

Drew is almost walking. He can pop up from the crawling position to standing. Wow! That’s incredible. He also is testing his boundaries with listening to Mommy. That’s getting old. He has a door fetish and we have a house rule of not playing with doors. Not that I’m so worried about them closing their own fingers in doors, but I’m worried they’ll close each other’s fingers in doors. Anyways, Drew is not respecting that rule at all and he throws huge tantrums when you say no to him. He is talking like crazy now too and I swear he says Mama and Dada at us. It’s cool. The breastfeeding era came to an end with little problem too. I am amazed he transitioned so well. His new thing though is not going down for naps or bedtime without a 10-15 screamfest. Bad Mommy for putting him to bed drowsy from breastfeeding. I knew that would catch up to me. I also am amazed at how quickly we are going through whole milk now that both Paige and Drew are drinking it. Time to get a cow.

Well, I need to get going and plan another fun exciting Spring day in AZ. Time outdoors is getting very precious. It’s getting HOT!!!

Cole Update - Day 3

You know what I love about our hospital? Room service and free wifi. Oh, you don’t care about that, you want to know about Cole. He’s doing better. He’s still coughing, but the coughing fits only last a few seconds versus hours like when he was first admitted. They are now very chunky coughs which means he’s trying to get rid of the goop that’s collected in his lungs. He’s now satting around 92 without O2 so the doctor let us take off nasal cannula. He keeps getting tangled up in all the cords, it’s a pain. His IV line kept getting kinked all night long and the IV machine would beep. Between the every 2 hour respiratory treatments, vital check ups, and IV machine beeps, not a lot of continuous sleep was had by either of us.

Cole is still lifeless. I think the last time he ate was on Tuesday. We tried to weigh him today and he couldn’t stand. We are going to lower the amount of IV fluid he’s taking in so hopefully he’ll want to drink more today. Cole is really not showing any emotion. He just lies there and stares. It’s freaking sad. I want my Crazy Cole back now! If he continues to improve, we’ll be discharged tomorrow. If he remains the same, we are probably here another couple of days.

Cole update - Day 2

Cole Hospital Day 2

Well, I’m home supposedly for the night.  Eric and I switched locations around 2:30 today and while I love being home with my baby and Miss Paige….I feel incredibly guilty not being with sweet Cole.  He was really sad when I left today and when I called Eric he said that Cole was still acting very sad and wasn’t talking.  In the thirty minutes that it took to get home Paige must have asked me about ten times “where Cole?” then she did the hand motions for “where”.  It was cute and sad.

So Cole and I didn’t sleep a wink last night.  We had breathing treatments every two hours and there were vitals and medications administered in between there at random times.  Plus I had a crib ordered for Cole but he is such a restless sleeper that the tubings and cords were getting wrapped around his neck and body which wasn’t safe.  Plus he pulled his IV out at one point.  So all that happened in about thirty minutes in his crib.  The nurse asked me to hold him all night to keep him safe, which I was going to suggest anyways.  So between Cole moving around on me, coughing on me, getting treatments, and making sure he didn’t fall off the bed…I don’t think I slept.  Or did he.

The doctor came in this morning and said that Cole definitely has pneumonia.  He just is not sure if it is viral pneumonia or mycoplasma pneumonia.  Doesn’t matter really since we are on antibiotics either way.  Right now the plan is to continue antibiotics, breathing treatments and fluids and just wait for Cole to feel better.  The scary thing is that Cole has not eaten in roughly three days.  Oh well, like the doctor said, breathing is more important right now than eating.  Right now we’re looking at coming home at a minimum Saturday but it could even be Monday.

Another hard thing is that since it is RSV season Eric and I can’t be together.  When we switch responsibilities we have to ask a nurse to sit in with Cole while we run downstairs and jump in the car.  Thank God for text messaging.

Cole In Hospital

Cole In Hospital

Cole’s been coughing for a few days now. We were hoping his cough didn’t get too bad. Unfortunately it looks like he might have pneumonia (the tests take 5 days or so to process so we are going to start him on a round of drugs now) and will be in the hospital for at least 2 days.  He’s was on 7 liters of O2 at one point but has settled down to about 2 liters.  When he came home from the NICU I think he was on 1/4 liter just to give you an idea.  We started doing hour long breathing treatments.  The doc said they actually can do 72 hour continuous breathing treatments for patients that need it.  How crazy is that? Hopefully the antibiotics kick in soon and he can get back home to Paige and Drew.  Oh he weighes just 22 pounds again.  Super.
