Drew’s 1 year checkup was pretty uneventful. He’s just awesome. Here’s his stats: weight 26 lbs 3 oz (88%), height 30″ (57%), and head size 92%. That’s one big noggin. And he’s a little overweight. Our peed said I need to give less formula/milk and more water. I did mention to him that Drew gets severe diarrhea whenever he drinks even a little bit of milk. Our peed did not know why this is since breastmilk has lactose in it as well as his formula and both have milk proteins. He told us to put Drew on soy milk since it is cheaper than formula and more like milk.
Other than that….things with Drew are great. He is a superstar.
UPDATED (Eric): Well no doubt he’s a big boy, but he has a long way to go if he wants to stand toe to toe to this kid.

He is just super cute! –as if you didn’t already know!
He is gorgeous! I hate that doctors bug and focus on his weight. I think he is just perfect.
YEAH for such a great apt! He weighs more than my 2 year old! ( but I guess the same is true on your end….) Just glad he is healthy!:) He looks awesome! That other kid weighs 48lbs??? Holy Moses! Thats a serious workout!!!!
Hey, Our Ped recommends that we put Lane on Soy when he has diarrhea but I looked it up online and didn’t like what I read. Check it out.
P.S. I love the chunk!
I can’t get over how old your baby looks in this picture! Overweight? Naaa, big-boned :O) Sweet baby! Thanks for sharing.
I don’t think I’d sweat the ‘overweight’… HUGS!!
As for the diarrhea with the milk…are you giving him whole milk? We couldn’t give any of our three girls whole milk because it was ‘too rich’ for them and caused horrible diarrhea. We switched to 2% milk and substituted things like whole milk cheese and yogurt so that they could get the ‘fat’ for their brain development, I’d try the 2% before I’d do soy..
Good luck and he is super cute!!!
I haven’t been on your site in awhile and just checked out the new site for the first time. Very nice!!!! Is was great seeing you guys at Horizon park a couple of weeks ago! We just ran into Laurie too. So, hopefully we can start seeing everyone more again!
Anyway … on the tubes thing …. you do have to be careful anytime you’re going to put a child under, but we did it with Megan after she had many ear infections and it was wonderful afterward. We just got through the winter with no infections at all compared to 6′ish last year. However, the tubes finally just came out and she just got another infection. So, we’re waiting to see how i goes over the summer. It sounds like you have all of the information you need, but if you need yet another opinion, we went to a great ENT that you could talk to. He worked with some other friends of ours too (who referred us to him) and they are also very happy. Just let me know if you want to the number.
One more thing …… Megan would throw up fairly often when on antibiotics because they upset her stomach (and the Motrin wasn’t nice on her stomach either). So getting off of so many antibiotics weighed heavily on our decision to do it. I remembered you mentioned that drew is sensitive to the milk. If he’s had infections and a lot of antibiotics, maybe it’s a similar situation? Maybe not?
On the milk intolerance front: it may be that Drew is allergic to the whey fraction of milk. This is the part that differs from mammal to mammal (or mammal to mama!). So he might be fine with breast milk, but not okay with cow milk. That’s probably what’s going on over here since Hallie tolerates goat milk fine but not cow milk.
On another note: Drew is so cute and I love all the birthday pics.
He’s growing and changing so fast, I really wouldn’t worry about him being “overweight” either…he looks great!
