All About Cole

So this post is about Cole.  I really should write posts on Paige and Drew as well because they’re growing up so fast!  First off with Cole…we decided we should have put the ear tubes in a while ago.  It is very noticeable that not only is he hearing better now, but he’s repeating everything better and talking more this last week.  I’m glad we decided to give him the tubes and the procedure was no big deal.  The only bummer to the whole ordeal is that we did it in summer because we spend a lot of our time in pools or playing with water and he still can’t get his head wet for another week.

Cole has been going through a phase lately.  I think it started about two or three weeks ago.  He has become such a baby!!!  He won’t sit in his booster seat at the table anymore…he says Cole Highchair.  We got a new swingset for the kids and it had two “big kid” swings and he said Cole Drew Swing and would not sit in the toddler swing.  He won’t go up and down the stairs as willingly as he would before.  When we’re out and about he wants “Up” all the time so I carry him.  He has been in a toddler bed for months now and he only came out in the morning one time to find me.  The rest of the time he lays in his bed and says “Mommy Come.  Come.  Come Mommy.  Mommy” until I go get him.  (Actually I prefer Cole’s method of waking up because it gives me time to get dressed, instead of Paige’s breakfast NOW DAMNIT MOMMY DON’T MAKE ME SCREAM method).

So Cole has tricked me with his potty training.  Maybe 1 out of 10 times he actually needs to poop on the potty, the rest of the time I think he just wants to watch TV.  Part of my incentive to get him to stay on the potty long enough is to allow him to watch TV.  The kid LOVES his Thomas videos and we just opened a new video (Thanks Nikki!) about counting that he can’t get enough of.

Another Cole story…I don’t think he can take baths with the others anymore.  I spend the entire bath time telling Cole not to dump water over his siblings’ heads, not to stand up in the tub, not to lay down in the tub taking up 4/5 of the available tub space, not to dump water out of the tub…etc. etc.  Oh…love those 2’s!!

Cole rode a tricycle for the first time yesterday at my mom’s house.  Okay…I’m exaggerating.  He kept his feet on the pedals while my mom pushed him from behind.  But it was still awesome and he talked about it before bed last night.  That’s something VERY cool they’ve been doing lately.  I always try to rehash our day before bed and talk about all the cool things we did that day or who we saw…and within the last week or two Paige and Cole have been expanding on my thoughts.  It’s neat to see what excites them and have them verbalize it.

Well, Cole’s trying to poop on the potty now.  We still have occasional issues with constipation so I truly believe he needs to use the potty as is not just trying to watch TV.  I gave him a bunch of Glycolax yesterday so we should be watching a LOT of TV today!

For whatever reason, Drew is the only one who will always look at the camera.  The other two just don’t cooperate like they used to!

    Catching Up

    eric   June 25th, 2008      9 comments...sweet!

When we were sick the other week, we had a chance to have all the babies kids weighed.  Paige was 29 pounds, Drew was 26 pounds, and Cole was 23 pounds.  We also met this week with the peed regarding Cole’s weight.  After seeing all the specialists, we’ve decided to do nothing.  We’ll wean him off of formula when he’s ready.   No tube.  Everything will be the same, but we’ll start giving him Periactin to try to stimulate his appetite.

We also had an allergist appointment for Cole and Drew.  Cole didn’t test positive to any of his scratch tests this time.  We’re going to do some blood work to be sure, but it looks like he’s outgrown his peanut allergy.  +1 Cole

Drew on the other hand is a mess.  He’s allergic to a bunch of nuts, has an intolerance to soy and milk, and get this, allergic to rice.  Who the heck is allergic to rice?  Drew’s had bad liquid stools for a while, so we’ve changed his milk to soy milk.  That didn’t’ cure it, so we went to rice milk and now we find out he has an allergy to rice.  That’s crazy.  Anyway, he’s going to get blood drawn to get more info.
    -1 Drew

Nice blue backdrop.  Her lips are blue from eating fruit roll-ups in the pool.

Cole lounging in the pool eating a fruit roll-up.  Just another day in paradise for the big guy!

    Ear Today, Gone Tomorrow

    eric   June 23rd, 2008      2 comments...sweet!

“Fluid in my ears? I don’t hear anything.”

Cole had his ear tube surgery today.  Is it bad when the staff at the hospital knows who you are without checking your chart?  I guess Cole has obtained “regular status” at Phoenix Children’s.  Cole was the second surgery of the day.  There was a boy before Cole having the same surgery.  His parents were a mess and couldn’t stop crying.  Rookies! hahaha.  The surgery takes about 10 minutes at most.  One of the questions we had was since Cole had so much fluid in his ear for so long, could the pressure affect his eating?  Well today he ate better and drank better than he has for a long time.  Is it related to his surgery or the fact we starved him before surgery?  Anyways, he’s doing great and you would never know he was at the hospital today.

In other news, we meet with the peed to talk about our long term care regarding Cole’s eating.  We’ve seen all the doctors, therapists, and nutritionists.  Now it’s time to come up with a plan.  I’m guessing it goes something like this: give him less formula and make him eat high calorie foods.  But what do I know, I’m a blogger not a doctor dammit!

    Resort Fun

    eric   June 22nd, 2008      10 comments...sweet!

We decided to visit one of the local resorts this weekend and crash their pool!

There were lots of water fountains and pools to play in.

They have lots of kid friendly pools.

Drew is a water baby at heart. He hates baths though. Weird kid.

This pool goes from 6 inches to 3 feet deep.
