Short and sweet before kids wake up:
Eye appt for Paige and Cole: Always scary. Appt was grueling but worth the torture of sitting in exam room for over an hour. Neither Paige or Cole’s prescription changed. I mentioned to Dr. that Paige still cocks her head to focus on something intently but the good news is that she apparently cocks in both directions. I really only see her cock one way at home, but she did both in the office. She is still doing this and probably always will, to stop the bouncing of her eyes. The worst story about the eye appt is that the eyeglass store that I have had issues with in the past once again screwed up. Cole’s lenses were switched in his frames and the doctor had rechecked it about three times because he too couldn’t believe that the store did that to Cole YET AGAIN. I had to go back to the store which was good in a way because I needed to let that lady know that she once again dropped the ball big time. As mad as I was I know that I didn’t properly convey to her what an idiot I think she is. Or how she could have caused my son eye damage and given him really bad headaches AGAIN because of her incompetence. Eric told me to stop going there, but really it is difficult to find a pediatric eye store that carries frames that fit our kids. I have gone elsewhere in the past (both of the backup pairs for each kid are at other stores) but the frames that fit best are from this place so it makes sense to do repairs with this place. I can handle the fact that she continually tells me the glasses will be ready by a certain date and I usually add an extra week onto the day they tell me. But when her mistakes cause discomfort or damage….totally unacceptable.
Whew! Glad I got that off my chest…because it was very difficult to verbalize to this woman how I feel about her job performance knowing that I have to continue using her services. And the weird part is that I finally felt like we were reaching a point of mutual acceptance of each other and now that’s all gone. Okay I said I was going to stop talking about this. Moving on. We got the endocrine results back for Cole. I was okay with the results either way. Human growth hormone problem…fix it…fix Cole…move on. No human growth hormone problem…Cole’s normal…keep doing what we’re doing. Cole’s normal.
Allergy testing results on Cole and Drew: The RAST testing results were normal on both boys. Huh? So no allergies. Yippee! This is fantastic for Cole because he’s going to be starting preschool in 40+ days and I didn’t want them to have to give him a special diet or make him sit at the “allergy table” with a big sign on his chest saying Don’t feed Me Peanuts. He’s now totally normal. :) Drew on the otherhand was switched to an expensive formula containing no soy or milk proteins for a week and he continues to have diarrhea. He is not allergic, but he may still have an intolerance. We are to continue the formula (which is for infants 0-12mo old and Drew is 15mo old) until we see the allergy doctor again. Uug. Maybe Drew just has an overactive gut? We’ll see. We also have his 15-mo appt coming up soon so we’ll see what our peed’s office says about all this. I’m also dying to see how tall the big guy is. He’s comparable in height now to Cole who was 33 1/2 at last check. I’m thinking crib tent soon for Drew since he’s been making the motions to crawl out of his crib. He’s only 15 mo!!!
That’s all. But that’s enough for one week, right?

bummer about the eye glasses. I would have been fuming. And it is super hard when you really don’t have a choice whether or not to go there. Yay for the endocrine results!!!! Can’t wait to see how baby boy drew is growing!!! Here is a link to some glasses for kids that quite a few people have used on the preemie blog group. I know Liz has used them and has been very happy with them. Worth checkiing out maybe

Yikes on the formula - but don’t worry about it being for kids under 12 months. My daughter ( tube fed ) is on a pediatric formula nd the only difference is the amount of calories. Normal formula is 19/20 cal per 30 mls ( 1 ounce ) and pediatric formula is 30 cal per ounce. Since Drew is so big, I don’t think you need to worry about bulking up his formula.
Drew’s poo may continue to be icky for a while on the formula - its already mostly digested and so may … run… through him. You can try thickening it ( and his poo ) with rice cereal if he’ll drink it that way.
Sorry about the glasses!!!
How about buying the frames from your usual lady, then going somewhere else (lenscrafters never screwed up mine) for installing the lenses?
From what I know into our foray into the allergy world, which is a baffling place, it can take 3 weeks or so to clear from the system. Our anecdotal evidence certainly suggests this. Other thing to consider: there’s a whole class of allergies out there that don’t come up positive on the RAST/skin prick tests. They are the non-IgE mediated kind (and alas the kind that Hallie has). I suspect Drew may have a mild version of these, or at least an intolerance to soy and cow dairy, which are the most common trigger foods for these sorts of allergies (Hallie, alas, is allergic to more than just this). Anyway, if you are bored and want to check out this site, it has great information on food allergies in kids: Just google ‘parents of children with food allergies’. I believe the website is somthing like http://www.pofak.com (I’d look it up for you but I’m on my SIL and BIL’s computer and I have yet to figure out how to open multiple windows without losing the site I’m on).
I would have been FUMING over the switch of the lenses. That is absolutely rediculous. It’s not like he’s old enough to tell you something doesn’t look right. I would have insisted on my money back. I would definitely be making a call to the owner. You showed great restraint, IMO!
Totally agree with what a commenter above said. If you like the frames from this store you can always buy them and get the lenses somewhere else. LensCrafters has never made an error with mine or my son’s glasses. You can bring in any pair of frames and get your lenses from them, too. The lenses from LensCrafters seem to be of higher quality than some other places. I’ve been getting my glasses there since I was a kid and they’ve never, ever gotten scratched.
