2nd day of preschool update

tobie   August 23rd, 2008

For those of you worried I was still at preschool 48 hours later still trying to coax the kids to leave, no worries!!  The second day of preschool was a thousand times better than the first.  It was a bit longer of a day, still not the full two-and-a-half hours, but an hour and a half.  Drew and I left without too much problem.  We met Daddy at Starbucks (Drew thinks this is part of our routine now) and then went to a Barnes and Noble down the street about four blocks from the school.  We played with their Thomas the train table and had a blast ripping books off the shelves until it was time to pick up the others.  When we went to get P and C we brought a push-car for Drew to sit in (or Cole if he should tantrum).  The teacher did not have us go into the class to get the kids this time, instead she ushered them out the door.  They came out of the class and handed me their art work of the day and I almost got choked up.  It was such big kid behavior.  There were no tears or fussing because Cole knew he couldn’t stay, and Drew wasn’t allowed in.  Yea!  Cole told me the rest of the day and I think into the next day about how they went on the playground.  They love this school and I don’t think I’ve ever felt like more of a mom.  I know that sounds weird.  The teacher gave us school bags to decorate and personalize.  I’d love to be a super-crafty person, and I really had fun shopping for cute iron-ons ($45 later) and hopefully the bags look cute.  I took a bunch of pictures of school so hopefully either Eric can show me how to put pics on the blog (I know we’re way overdue on the rest of our vacation pics!) or he can do it.  He’s really busy lately.

So other news:  Drew is going through the super clingy phase where I can’t leave the room otherwise he starts crying “mama, mama” and chases after me grabbing my hand and pulling me back into the room he was in.  It’s a very trying time for us.  It’s weird it coincides with the first week of school and all this mommy and me time we’ve been having.

Yesterday was our last day with our summer girl J.  She still is going to try and work two afternoons a week which will be a HUGE help during the fall semester.  That’s roughly 8 hours a week of guaranteed help.

I’m re-decorating the Big Kids room.  Nothing serious, but it’s still “Cole’s room” with Baby Sport theme all around the room and it doesn’t look like Paige will be moving out on her own any time soon so I wanted more of a neutral theme for them.  I chose a Zoo theme (So Aunt Nikki–if you have access to any zoo animal theme decor…let me know).  I considered dividing the room in half and doing half princess, half train theme..but that would be more difficult.

Well, that’s it.  Need to go play with the troops.  One last thought….Aunt Nancy–don’t know if Cole picked up some weird foot fungus walking with you every morning taking Scooter outside…but his feet are sloughing off.  I took a picture of it for all our fabulous readers to offer their thoughts (who needs doctors?  j/k…if it still looks this bad in a couple of days we’re seeing the peed!), and I’ve been smearing intensive foot rescue cream (Nicole–from when you visited me in the OB ward during our first pregnancy!) so we’ll see if it clears up.  It looks gross.

Walking up to the school!

Kids, school is cool!

What is it with Cole and vacuums?

My son’s feet looked that way and I thought they were dry, too. But it turned out they were too damp all the time. He had been wearing footy pajamas and his feet were really sweating in there. So we cut the feet off the pajamas and went to 100% cotton socks and it cleared up. I’m not sure if that’s Cole’s problem or not, but just thought I’d let you know what worked for us.

Perhaps he has a touch of Athlete’s Foot? It too can come from being too damp…

Ummmmm I totally have zoo related stuff to send! I will work on sending you something awesome soon!
Also, do you think that foot thing was starting at my house - remember how his foot was itching the last night?

Cooper has the same thing going on with his feet. After being on a anti-fungal, and hydrocortisone cream, it still persists. They think it is some sort of eczema. I’ll let you know for sure once we see the dermatologist!

No foot comments here, just that Paige’s hair is adorable like that!

Two thoughts… my first is that many a viral infection can lead to peeling skin like that.

My second thought is Dishydrosis Dermatitus, and I didn’t spell that right. I’m pretty sure Mila has it too - both feet and both hands, alternating. Starts out as little red dots, then the skin peels off.

Pics are priceless! My son, who is Drew’s age, is also going through a super-clingy phase. I can’t even go to the bathroom without sobs of “Mama Mama Mama”! So glad the kids are enjoying school!
