Our Little Couch Potatoes!

“Hello Ladies!”

You were a good companion, friend, and best damn dog ever!
Moxie and I had lots of good times together. It was 2000 and I had bought my first house. I was living with Greg and Chad. I had told Greg I was getting a dog. He said if I bring a dog home he was moving out. So what did I do? I brought Moxie home from the pound the next day of course. Greg was this close to moving out because of this. Because of Moxie’s coolness factor, Greg in the end liked Moxie more than me (that’s why you weren’t my best man! haha).
Tobie and I were only dating for a few months when we decided to go camping with Moxie. It was during summer but got pretty cold at night. One night after a few beers I went into the woods to find the “ultimate” marshmallowstick for the fire. Of course Moxie was by my side. We went about 20 feet and totally got lost. If you have ever been in the woods at night with only the stars guiding your way, you’ll know how easy it is to get turned around. Moxie never left my side and after about an hour or so, she helped me find my way back to Tobie (who by that time was crying because she thought I ditched or was dead or something). It was crazy we both were screaming each other’s name but couldn’t hear a thing because of the dense trees. I would probably still be out there if it weren’t for Mox.
Tobie tried to ditch me in 2001 by moving to DC. A few months later I was laid off at my job so picked up all my stuff and drove cross country with Moxie in my Tahoe. If you know me, I don’t like to dilly dally on the road. I think I drove for about 13 hours or so and stopped on the side of the road in god knows where to catch some shut eye. Moxie was going crazy. She wouldn’t sleep and kept whining like something was outside. I got out of the car, but it was dark and all I could see was a small car near us. Anyways, I think I got about 2 hours of sleep and it was light out so I decided to get back on the road. We popped out of the car and low and behold there was a live buffalo behind a fence about 10 feet from my car. My girl Mox knew there was some fresh game outside! It still cracks me up thinking about it because it was so random. What kind of tourist attraction is that? A buffalo by a gas station. Classic. Anyways, we got to DC from AZ in about 22 hours. Who kicks butt at driving?
Or what about the time when we lived in a little house in Silver Spring. There was a creek and a path behind our house which was great for walks. If you knew Moxie, you would know she was not a leash dog. She liked to run free. There were many a day she would run off and do her thing and would end up on our front doorstep hours later. How smart is she, always found her way home at any house we lived in. Anyways, one time she came back smelling just plan awful. We think she rubbed her body on some rotting animal carcass. We took her to the groomer to be cleaned because it was that bad. They washed her like 3 times and sprayed every doggie perfume they could find on her. She still smelled like ass. I remember them apologizing for not being able to clean her well enough to get rid of the smell. They said in all their years grooming dogs they have never seen anything like it. I don’t know how long it took for that smell to go away, but I think I can still smell it today if I think hard enough about it!
I have many more great stories with Moxie in our lives.
Moxie was a great dog, sure she shed a lot, ate food out of the kids hands, and occasionally rubbed a dingle-berry from her butt on the carpet, but who hasn’t, right? She’ll be missed and whenever we get another dog, she’s got her work cut out for her because the bar has been set pretty high.

I feel like there’s so much going on and the kids are exploding with funny quotes and new discoveries and all…and I want to capture all of it. I know I’ve mentioned before that they are TOTALLY into Christmas and it’s soooo fun. We drive at night listening to Cole in the backseat saying “those lights are pretty cool”…”look at how colorful!” Their vocabulary is huge. They had their first candy cane at a playdate last week and those red and white sugar sticks were heaven. I have since told them that Mommy doesn’t know where to get candy canes, but maybe Santa will bring them some. Since then, they do a lot of imaginary play lately and I’ve heard Cole pretend to hand Paige something and he’ll say “Paige–this is a candy cane from Santa!”. They pretended to be pirates the other day and right now their favorite thing to do is make picnics with their play kitchen for each other. Imaginations are taking off.
The other day they were running around giddy with laughter and chasing each other (wrestling has also become a big hit even though it makes Mommy crazy) and Paige stopped laughing and running long enough to tell me “Mommy, those boys are silly!”. Then she took off again. I couldn’t stop laughing because obviously she got that from me.
Drew has become quite a terror lately. Just within the last two weeks. He has become very clingy and jealous if I spend time with the other kids and constantly is taking my hand to drag me into a different room where it’s just him and I. I’m not giving into it, but it’s hard to watch him cry and lose his mind if he doesn’t get his way. He is still my baby (for another 54 days…then he’ll be one of my babies, not THE baby). I don’t think he senses the new baby, I think he’s just going through a phase.
Some recent changes to our house: Making room for the Christmas tree and all the hundreds of presents I know the kids are going to receive…we took down the crib we used to use as our changing table downstairs. Nobody ever slept in the crib…we used it strictly for changing and storing diapers and wipes. I now use a changing pad which is easier than lifting a 30+lb kid in and out of for diaper changes. Granted I only change Drew now which is awesome….but he still gets changed about 8 times a day. The bad thing to this is that the kids love to pull the wipes out of the container and ”wipe” the house, then leave wipes everywhere. The other change we did yesterday is remove the downstairs gate. Now we only have one baby gate in our house at the top of the stairs. This is a good thing. The other night I heard someone (I thought Paige at the time) saying Mommy very softly. I finally recognized that the voice wasn’t Paige’s, then I realized the voice wasn’t upstairs. Freaking out, I went downstairs and found Cole standing there in the dark. He said Mommy I want milk. Okay???? We’re now keeping the gate locked upstairs. I don’t like the idea of him roaming around in the middle of the night. Not that he’s awoke since then but that was weird.
We went to the park yesterday and the kids were adorable. Cole made boobytraps at the bottom of the slides with sand and they laughed and had the best time. Cole and Paige went down a wide slide holding hands. We’re at a really good age.
Did I mention they know all the words to Rudolph? Even Drew gets most of the words. And Paige and Cole know most of the verses of Frosty. Wow!
Related Posts:Had OB appt this afternoon. My ultrasound tech kept saying “whoa, this is going to be one big baby!”. “Whoa, look at those long chunky legs!”, “look at those big feet!”. How big is big? The baby on average should be measuring 2.25 lbs and the little guy is currently measuring 3lbs. My OB said if the baby continues to grow at his current rate he would be 8.5 lbs by 37 weeks, and over 10 lbs by due date. Wow. Another cool thing on the ultrasound is that I could actually see the baby’s hair. Apparently not only is he a giant, but he’s a hairy giant. Which explains all my crazy heartburn!
So no cervical checks, no fetal fibronectin, no problems! Just the way we like it!
On side note: Cole asked me today when we were going to go play in the snow. Hmmmm…..very pregnant mommy sledding in the snow?? Let’s do it.
Related Posts:Hello Third Trimester! Good to see you again! After my little scare two weeks ago it is very reassuring to make it to this point. 28 weeks is HUGE. 28 weeks to me means the baby probably wouldn’t need to be intubated if he made an early arrival. 28 weeks means I would be able to deliver at our local hospital. If not for our little hiccup two weeks ago when I thought the dehydration was causing me to go into labor..I would never have doubted that I would go all the way. I still think now I’m fully recovered that I will go all the way, and hitting these major milestones makes me feel all that much better.
So no…to all my close friends that have asked for belly shots…we have yet to take any pregnancy pics. This baby is already getting the shaft and he’s not even here yet. He is one crazy active guy! It’s kind of weird/funny because when I lose my mind with the kids (which luckily happens maybe once or twice a week) he contracts HARD. I think it’s his way of saying “hey…don’t yell at my brother/sister”. He’s going to be a loyal sibling.
So I’ve told one person in our circle of family/friends (yes, you should feel special…I have since banned the disclosure of the name from Eric or myself) the chosen name for New Baby. The weird thing is that I was in Starbucks drivethru the other day and the girl was Ultra Friendly and leaned out her window to admire my poppin’ fresh belly ( a little invasive in my opinion…what if I was still in my jammies?). Then she asked if we had a name picked out and I told her. I ran it by the Starbucks girl. Luckily she approved so it’s a go!! Whew!
9 weeks to go. Today’s over so that leaves 62 days to go…..OMG. Nobody panic.
